I have to say, this video is amazing! Ty, I just started a job with someone who is deaf and didn't know how to approach it, my colleagues who've been at the job for a while either with try to sign or write in a whiteboard. I don't know how to appropriately gesture, or if he reads lips. I'm still trying to find a good approach. I just wanted to express my gratitude and admiration for this video, not only for the I sight but also the love and chemistry between you both! I'm realizing now that those who are deaf are the most liveliest. Ty guys for this!

I love signing the songs to help make a connection with some of the music. I'm so lucky that my husband can't hear me singing but he really enjoys watching me.

Is Ryan's deafness Profound or Severe?

I enjoyed it without the audio. I guess I can always mute my video, but then I won’t hear the clicking noises you guys make and I enjoy them haha. But with the signing and speaking, it’s a bit much for me, I noticed with your other videos I had a hard time finishing them because my mind felt like it was taking in a lot. But I made it through this video easily!

I love the ASL videos you do. I believe all education should be free, which is why I will never used "Skillshare". Skillshare was a concept in communal communities that shared what they knew for the empowerment and education of all for FREE. This business "Skillshare" is a mock off of that already perfect idea of free education. It's not called Skill-Sell, it's called Skill-Share. You share it not sell it. An now in this age of free internet access the concept is even more offensive. Education should always be freely given, or offered so that everyone has access to it, and those that can give, can, and the idea of taking a name that was already used for free education and learning, and putting a price tag on it, something priceless, is disrespectful. That's my take on it, for all those people that didn't know skillshare was a concept that was free until someone made it into a business. F*ck "Skillshare" there are plenty of free resources for anything you want to learn online. That said... love your ASL videos <3

But who knows, maybe this is their nice as possible behavior 😅 everyone is very different, and I think at the end of the day no one means to be mean. I always loved sign language. In canada it was 800 dollars to learn only communication, and that was 17 years ago and I could not afford it. I told my work place to send me to study, but they ignored what ever I told them. O well I still love the language. You are great guys and thank you for sharing.

I know this is 3 years later but for anyone like me just discovering these videos, how do you feel about CC in general? I am 100% hearing but most times have subtitles on youtube bc I like it. I found this video sooooo calming. I could just read the subtitles like usual but without the noise. I find it so comforting to see facial expressions. Being autistic I misunderstand people quite a bit and it feels so much clearer to have someone being more “obvious” about their emotions. It’s so refreshing haha Question for Ryan: you mentioned in another video about wedding planning you prefer reading lips because it’s easier for you and more “real time”. Is this just an interpretation-lag type situation? Also, would love to hear how you communicate at home with your family? Is it a mix or sign or lip reading? Interesting hearing about your lives, very cool ❤ thanks for sharing

This is exactly how my husband and I were, we were engaged for 3 years and ended up having a small wedding. We are both introverted and just didn’t like the idea of being in the spotlight lol 😂 My husband got a mixed white and gold band and loved it…he just lost it after 10 years 😢 he’s so bummed. I don’t like having things on my hands and often times don’t wear my rings so just get what you want!! At the ended of the day you’re making a promise to each other in your own way and your family is celebrating. Nothing more. Have fun, it’s just one day amongst an ocean together. ❤ Man, you guys seem so genuine and nice and so much fun. ❤ Like the kind of friends people have for life. It seems like you have a really genuine understanding of each other and it’s something that has been built up over time like you explain. Is this how it feels to you? ❤

Wow this came up randomly on my feed (I think bc I study japanese?) and didn’t realise this was the norm encounter for you. I am not deaf and have never known anyone who is deaf but have known the ASL alphabet since I was a kid bc I studied sign books out of fascination. But seeing this I will definitely for sure learn some basic language for interacting. I am now in the UK and taught my kid ASL letters when he was born (now I am trying to learn British SL letters! Eek!) Man, awesome videos keep them coming we need to know this stuff. I remember working in a hospital and seeing a woman who had fallen down the stairs lying in a hallway on a bed. she spoke Japanese (no English) and I still remember 20+ years later how good it felt to talk to her and be that communication for her to describe how she felt. It’s immense. ❤ Will be subscribing and following you guys, god bless and stay strong 💪🏼 ❤

Wow! I am currently learning ASL and came across your channel. Thank you for sharing your experiences good and bad and so sorry that you've been having to endure all of this. It really sucks and made me sad. I'm not surprised unfortunately which is why it's always been in my heart to want to learn ASL because I know that the world is missing on all you amazing people. It's so sad how so many people, businesses, and our own government don't care to make everything the hearing has access to accessible to the Deaf as well. Keep up the great content and look forward to many more videos. Definitely helping me learn ASL and understand the Deaf culture and community and all they experience.

First, I’m so excited for y’all!! Congrats and don’t feel rushed, that day is about you two! Second, I have a question! I have a rare disease that has taken my hearing in my right ear completely and it’s about 50-60% gone in my left ear. My right ear went in less than 2 months. I dove DEEP into learning ASL so I could communicate with my husband and kids, but they don’t really have an interest in learning it. I’m trying to not let it hurt my feelings because they don’t truly understand that I’m deaf in one ear and about to be deaf in the other ear because I’ve been hearing all my kids life up until this point. So I’m trying hard to not get hurt feelings but I’m human and it does hurt. Here’s my question, how should I try to persuade them to learn ASL for me? Or should I even bother? Ryan, how would you bring it up to Ellen if she didn’t show any interest in learning for you? P.S. I’m learning sooo much and sooo fast by watching your videos! Thank you!!!
